Sizing Your Pet for a Ruffle Guard

The measurement needed is the length of your pet’s head which will determine the width of the Ruffle. In other words, if your pet cranes his or her neck around to lick wounds on the side of the body, how wide a Ruffle would it take to block your pet’s mouth/tongue from reaching the wound? Typical widths are 5″, 6″ and 7″ with the first two being most common for small and medium-sized dogs. (The other measurement is from the pet’s chin to the floor. We want to make it short enough so that the pet doesn’t trip.)

Standard cats wear a 5″ ruffle. Toy dogs and small cats wear 4″. My vet uses the 4″ for the smallest animals they work on – puppies, toy dogs, and kittens/small cats.

The Ruffle Guard is fully adjustable at the neck. There is a thick shoelace-type tie that you can loosen to put on the Ruffle and then tighten and tie to keep the Ruffle in place.

Example: My Sasha is about 13″ high from floor to shoulder. She’s a chunky girl, built more like the Cocker Spaniel part of her heritage than the toy poodle part. She wears a 6″.

Pet Ruffle Guards are Washable!

You may want to buy Pet Ruffle Guards in pairs so that you will always have a clean one on hand. They are washable for those times when they have been dragged through the dirt while your pet sniffs at the ground or if food gets on it. The cotton/poly blend fabric will not fade, wrinkle, or shrink and can be washed and dried with any other clothing.
